Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to our school website which I hope you find both interesting and informative. Our pupils play an important role in keeping this site up to date. We are a small friendly rural school in South Lanarkshire with 34 pupils enrolled for this session 2018-19.

Currently, we have two classrooms in our school: one for P1-4 children and one for P5-7 children. These open into a breakout area and library and our children make good use of these areas. The classrooms open out into the playground making it another area to support teaching and learning. Our staff make very good use of the playground and surrounding areas for learning. Last year we planted our school orchard and planted willow beds.  The school boasts a lovely gym hall which doubles for a dining hall at lunchtime. Almost all pupils take our tasty nutritious school lunches which are cooked on the premises by Rosie our cook. Our playground has been developed by our pupils and has a lovely willow structure as a centrepiece. There is a small outdoor classroom and a multi-use games area (muga) which is very popular with our children and staff. The muga is used by the community out of school hours.

We are host to Rigside and Rural Outreach Nursery School which operates five days a week within their own self-contained unit in our school building. We enjoy working in partnership with them and look forward to extending this partnership. As Abington Primary and neighbouring Crawford Primary share me as a head teacher I try to divide my time between both schools fairly. While it is important for both schools to work together collaboratively it is also important that each school has their own identity too.

We have a very caring family ethos in our school and we aim is to build on existing partnership working within our community. Our vision statement is ‘Safe, Happy, Aiming for the Highest.’ We try to ensure that each individual child feels cared for and supported to learn to the best of his/her ability. We encourage pupils to be good citizens and to have an understanding of the rights of the child. Our values are encompassed in the statement: Respect Yourself, Respect Others and Respect the Environment.’

Please take time to look through our website and find out for yourselves the variety of good learning activities that our pupils have been doing in school.
